  Subject : Any case study for a large project server configuration? (1) | | | 1 | We are in the process of configuring an MS project 2007 Server for a large EPM environment. The requirement is close to a 'Program Mgmt' type of Installation. Based on information at the microsoft website, we know that there are some software limitations (ex: size of the plan, #lines in a plan, # of base lines, # of resources, # of sub-projects etc.) as well as limitations due to server farm configuration. Ex: How true is the limitation of 11 baselines for a project?
Apart from those concerns, I am wondering how much performance improvement there would be by configuring it as a multi-tier 'multi-server' environment vs. our 2-server (1 for apps/web/sharedpointservices and 1 for DB) architecture. I understand that the hardware specs. for the server are important as well, but any general information on best practices for configuration would be appreciated.

| Subject : Archiving a specific Project within Project Server 2007 (1) | | | 0 | Good morning. I am a MOPS 2007 noob, and I have a quick question concerning Project Archiving.
From what I have read, the ProjectServer_Archive database is where projects go when ever the are "Deleted" when the "Delete Enterprise Objects" option is chosen from PWA Database Administration. So, they are really not deleted, they are moved to another database.
Also, a new Project Status could be created to reduce the visibility of a Project for specific Roles so tha the Project "feels" archived.
I was hoping Project Server 2007 provides a command line utility that allows an individual Project to be exported external the database for true archiving. However, I have not read of such a utility.
Now for my question: I would like to be able to provide my upper management with the ability to report against past (preferrably archived) Projects as well as published Projects.
Are there any best practices for archiving individual Projects in such way thay there metrics are still avaible for reporting along side current Published Projects? Think "two project types"; New Projects and Maintenance Projects. How can I archive old Projects (regardless of thier type) so that I can generate reports showing the cost associated with Maintaining a Project contrasted against the cost of a New Project?

Alternate access mapping is a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 feature that is configured in the SharePoint Central Administration Web site.
1.
In Central Administration, go to the Operations page and in the Global Configuration section, click Alternate access mappings.
2.
On the Alternate Access Mappings page, click Show All and select Change Alternate Access Mapping Collection.
3.
Choose the Web application for which you want to modify the alternate access mapping. For example, in the case of adding a new front-end Web server to scale out a small farm configuration, it would be the Web application on which Project Web Access is configured.
4.
Click Edit Public URLs. This opens the Edit Outbound Zone URLs page, which lists public URLs for all zones for this Web application. Enter the public URLs that you want returned to users from different zones.
And I made everything the same https://server.domain.com where they were http://server and now I can't get back into the server. I'm hosed. |

I tried to do the same thing on the Task Updates page in PWA 2007 but it reverts to a default when I close and then return. Is there a way to save the modified view? |
